We have owned and raised 12 different breeds of rabbit. We currently have 7 different breeds of rabbit for our parties. All rabbits have their own personality just like people. Sometimes rabbits act like dogs- wanting all your attention and following you around. Some act like cats - push you away, want to be left alone most of the time but if they decide they want attention they better get it. Some are easier to train because they have a want to learn and to please their owner. Sometimes human interaction can not determine how a rabbit will behave or act.
A lionhead rabbit is a small breed rabbit. Lionheads have a mane and a skirt of wool. Their back saddle (the middle of their back) that doesn't have a skirt should be all short hair. Lionheads need to be kept in spaces above 30 degrees Fahrenheit and below 80 degrees. They make better indoor rabbits because of their toleration to heat and cold.
In some countries they have dwarf lionheads or consider lionheads 'dwarf' rabbits. We have some very small lionheads at 'Billion-hare Bunnies' that are as small as Netherland dwarf rabbits and some smaller. We have some lionheads with hardly any skirt or mane. We have some lionheads that have long hair all over their back as well.
Lionheads can be so sweet and snuggly, they train rather easily, they don't like to be picked-up unless their feet are held or they are trained to 'up' before they are grabbed. Being such a small rabbit seems to make them a little more jumpy than other rabbits.
Otis is a V.M. (Vienna Marked) Harlequin Lionhead. She is the absolute sweetest rabbit. She enjoys pets and will sit for as long as needed. She is part of our photo rabbits becuase she so easily poses and sits still for long periods of time. She is my daughters rabbit. Otis has been trained and played with since birth. She enjoys leasure strolls in the hood of a sweatshirt, where she feels very snug. She lives with Benjamin or Benji our Holland lop.
Beast is a BEW or a Blue-eyed White Lionhead. He has more hair than most, including some long back hair. This means he can get tangles more often than other lionheads. Beast has been with us since he was born. I didn't plan on keeping him, but he stole my heart. Beast would come up to the side of the cage everytime I entered their enclosure and ask for pets. When he got a little older his ears started flopping to the side. As a lionhead he should not have floppy ears but it gives him character and is my absolute favorite since he looks like Yoda from Starwars sometimes. Beast never gets tired of being loved. He is not so happy being moved from child to child but he snuggles in fast and just enjoys the contact. He used to be a photo bunny but the light makes him disappear and it has become too hard to photograph him when people are holding him.
Otis is a magpie lionhead. She is named after the 'Rescue Rangers' along with her two sisters who are also part of our bunny parties. Dale will only be part of our bunny parties until she finds her new forever home. She is a sweet baby but we are transitioning to a different group of rabbits and she is looking for a new dwelling.
Chip is a sable point magpie lionhead. She is named after the 'Rescue Rangers' along with her two sisters who are also part of our bunny parties. Chip will only be part of our bunny parties until she finds her new forever home. She is a sweet baby but we are transitioning to a different group of rabbits and she is looking for a new dwelling.
gadget is a Vienna Marked Harlequin lionhead. This means she has more white on her than a regular Harlequin and she blue eyes. She is named after the 'Rescue Rangers' along with her two sisters who are also part of our bunny parties. Gadge will only be part of our bunny parties until she finds her new forever home. She is a sweet baby but we are transitioning to a different group of rabbits and she is looking for a new dwelling.
Yang is a harlequin with low rufus. He is probably the biggest reason bunny parties ever started. He is the most intelligent rabbit. He knows his name, comes when called, and will hold still to be picked up. Yang loves carrots and is slowly getting to know other treats but so far none compare to carrots. Yang lives with Dandy and Lily. Grandma penny used to be in this group also but she had to be removed because of her health. We are looking to introduce more rabbits into this small group but it takes a lot of time and work. Yang is one of our oldest rabbits. Penny is his mom and he was from one of her first litters with us. Penny has learned commands because of Yang.
Penny is a VM tort. We call her penny at home and Grandma or Grandma bunny at most parties. She is the oldest rabbit we have. She was one of the first rabbits we ever owned. She has had a hand-full of rabbit litters and most of our rabbits are related to her. (we have a couple other lines but hers were so beautiful we kept a lot of her offspring and her offsprings-offspring).
Freeze is a BEW (Blue-Eyed White) Lionhead. She was born with a mohawk that looked like it was 'freeze' sprayed with hair spray. My son chose her as his rabbit because she had 'weird eyes', really it just looked like her eyes were too close together but she grew into them. She has come a long ways and is one of the most trained rabbits in her group. She will sit still for pets and to be picked up - unless her friends send out a 'danger' thump then she will dart away.
Teeny-Tiny is a VM Harlequin Lionhead. Tiny was the smallest rabbit we ever produced. She is still one of the smallest lionheads we have. She lives with her 4 daughters and a few friends. Her daughters are looking for new homes.
Marty is a Sable point Marten. He is often called a 'dog' because of his long hair on his ears and face. Each season he looks slightly different. He is usually the calmest rabbit we have but anyone can have a bad day and he is super suseptable to humans feelings and will get nervous and uncomfortable if a person holding him is. He enjoys being with small groups of rabbits but he gets very territorial with other males and we have had to remove him from our large party group because of this. He still attends small party venues.
Flower is a VM Magpie. She is a smaller lionhead. She has a very distinct face. She is hot and cold. She likes her 'alone' time and does not like to be disturbed. She also likes her loves and pets and doesn't want to be put down sometimes.
An English Angora has a furry face and is completely covered in wool. Angora rabbits need a lot of grooming and special grooming tools to take care of them. Some people spin the wool and turn it into yarn. Our Angora craves attention. Learns commands quickly and potty trained well. We bring her inside in the summer or keep her hair cut as short as possible to keep her cool.
Luna is a broken blue, English Angora Rabbit. English Angoras have hairy faces. They are covered in wool.
Holland Lops sometimes called 'Bunny dogs' are one of the most docile breeds. Very easy to train. These rabbits enjoy pets and can be easily picked up with little training.
Paublo is a holland lop BEW. He used to have one ear that didn't lop very well. He has always wanted extra attention and pets. He lives with 9 other female rabbits. He is a little small for a Holland lop. He loves playing with boxes.
Benjamin or 'Benji' is another one of our photo rabbits. He is very calm and enjoys to be held and pet. He loves littles because he doesn't get to see them very often and he wants to figure them out.
Mini Plush Lops are a 'specialized' breed. These rabbits are being breed to enter the ARBA (The American Rabbit breeders Association). Last I heard they passed some of the reviews in order to be considered. Breeders of these rabbits are pretty excited because that is the goal in creating a new breed of animal is to have the breed recognized. These rabbits have lop ears that aren't very long and soft plush bodies. Baby rabbits look like they are curly haired.
J.B. is a tort mini plush lop. She has a skinnier head than Wall-EE and a 'sassier' personality. She is just being introduced to parties because of her attitude. She is loving sitting on a blanket and being pet. She is not too thrilled about sitting on laps and will attack blankets when she is getting tired of being out with people. She is a work-in-progress and is learning to adapt pretty quickly.
Wall-EE is a Mini Plush Lop. He is more of a pet rabbit to our family but he does attend some functions. He loves lots of pets, attention and trying new fruits and vegetables. So far he hasn't met a food he doesn't like. He enjoys playing in the garden boxes and riding in the car. He also plays with the cat sometimes but we can't tell if he enjoys it or not because she tricks him to sniff her paw and then slaps him! We have two Mini Plush lops and I love Wall-EE's blocky 'pitbull' head!
Netherland Dwarf rabbits are a small breed rabbit. They are rather compact. Ours prefers to hide or lay out. They have short stand-up ears. They can run rather fast.
Belle used to be housed with Beast but then she was moved into a larger group of rabbits. She is still rather skittish. When held she calms right down and enjoys her pets. She can be very sweet and calm but when she wants to run and hide she will do just about anything to get away. She enjoys being with calm kids. Especially when they just lay by her and let her be herself.
Continental giant rabbits are the largest breed of rabbit. Ours rabbits came from the Schwab farm. They are huge rabbits with long pointy-rouned ears.
Daisy is part of our tea parties and sometimes attends other parties. She enjoys pets of all kinds. Doesn't mind being picked up for a good amount of time. Loves treats so much she will do tricks for them or steal them from other rabbits or people's hands.
Tiger-Lily is a very large rabbit. She is currently being trained to be picked up and held for longer periods of time. She does well being transported but larger rabbits don't enjoy being held because they like all of their feet on something solid. She enjoys face pets and loves treats.
Flemish Giant rabbits have a shorter stalkier body than the Continental Giant and shorter, long ears that are skinnier and pointier.
Dandy is actually a Giant Flemish, Continental Giant cross. She was supposed to be 'rabbit-stew' but we took her home with us instead. She is a very unique color, almost 'wild' type color with hints of orange. She has large White-Ears and makes everyone smile. She periscopes (stands on her hind legs and looks around) with those giant ears and sometimes you can't tell if the ears are real or fake. Some people have called her the 'real easter bunny'. Dandy gets mad and pouts sometimes. She has been known to hide in too small of houses to 'escape' party guests. She also gets so mad her whole body shakes when she doesn't want pets or she isn't getting treats fast enough.
Silver Fox rabbits are a large breed rabbit. Large breed rabbits don't do well in the heat. Silver Fox rabbits have unique fur. When you rub the hair backwards it will stay standing up. Silver Fox rabbits have silver tipped fur. Our baby was the sweetest thing every. He enjoyed being held and pet but he was also very skittish and thought everything would attack him.
Velveteen lops have long pointy ears that lop. When they are resting their ears usually lay along their back like a regular long eared rabbit. Most lops ears will flop down the sides of their face when they are resting. These are about the softest rabbits you will ever touch. Ours was skittish but loved being a house rabbit. She would sit with the dog and jump in my lap for snuggles and pets. She never really enjoyed being held. She liked to choose when she was snuggled.
Polish rabbits are the smallest breed of rabbit. They are very small and a little hard to handle when they are young. Our polish found a new home with a school teacher and a new best friend. He is so happy. He loved learning commands and does really well following those commands at his new home. Polish rabbits are very soft.
Rex rabbits are pretty soft rabbits. We own a regular size Rex rabbit. She doesn't mind being held but prefers just running around the back yard and eating lots of treats. Her favorite treats are carrots and dandelions. She usually gets to eat all of them because her friend doesn't like treats very much.
